Who Can Apply

Not-for-profit organisations or local branches of national organisations that provide services, programmes and activities that directly benefit people living within the Trust district. 

In assessing applications, the Trust is guided by Section 7 of the Masterton Trust Lands Act 2003. Generally, this may include projects that fall under the following categories –

a)  Art and culture
b)  Community services
c)  Environmental and conservation projects
d)  Health and wellbeing for all ages, including mental health and disability.
e)  Physical welfare, including recreational and sporting activities and coach development.

 

Conditions

What we fund

  • Operating expenses and core service costs (including salaries and wages)
  • Programme and activity costs
  • Workshops and events
  • Equipment and resources
  • Training and development
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Support for individuals – only if the application is submitted and fully endorsed by their local club or organisation.

What we don’t fund

  • Prizes
  • Projects of a non-specific nature.
  • Expenditure that has already occurred.
  • Purchase of vehicles.
  • Projects that benefit communities outside the Trust district.
  • Affiliation or membership fees.
Application Process

Complete the application form and submit.

The application form must be fully completed – including an explanation of why the funding is required, together with the benefits and outcomes your organisation is aiming to achieve for the Masterton community.

If your organisation’s project is expected to cost more than $20,000, please provide evidence of confirmed funding for the balance.

A comprehensive budget must accompany your application.

Grant funds will be paid on approval. To initiate payment, successful grant applicants need to invoice the Trust at grants@mtlt.org.nz.

Monitoring & Reporting

Successful grant recipients will be required to report on programme outcomes and account for the expenditure of funds, e.g. provide a summary of how the grant money was used (including proof of expenditure)  by 31 March 2025.

The Trust wants to find out if  funding has made a difference – evidence of beneficiaries and outcomes need to be clearly shown.

Grant recipient responsibilities –

  • Only use grant funds for their approved purpose
  • To use the funds for any other purpose, you must first seek the Trust’s approval
  • Any funds found not allocated to their approved purpose will need to be reimbursed.
