Who Can Apply

Community grants are available to not-for-profit organisations or local branches of national organisations that provide services, programmes and activities that directly benefit people living within the Trust district.

All community grant applications are assessed with criteria that align with the Masterton Trust Lands Act 2003. During the process of assessing applications, Trustees examine how funding can contribute to community good for:

  • Art and culture
  • Community services
  • Environmental and conservation projects
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Physical welfare.
Conditions

What we fund

  • Operating expenses and core service costs (including salaries and wages)
  • Programme and activity costs
  • Workshops and events
  • Equipment and resources
  • Training and development
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Support for individuals – only if the application is submitted and fully endorsed by their local club or organisation.

What we don’t fund

  • Affiliation or membership fees
  • Prizes
  • Projects of a non-specific nature
  • Expenditure that has already occurred
  • Purchase of vehicles
  • Projects that benefit communities outside the Trust’s defined geographical boundaries.
Application Process

Complete the Community Impact Grant application form and submit.

The application form must include a robust explanation of why the funding is required, together with the benefits and outcomes that the applicant is aiming to achieve for the community.

If the project is expected to cost more than $20,000, the applicant must demonstrate confirmed funding for the balance. A comprehensive budget must accompany the application.

Decisions on grant applications are made by the board of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. The decision-making process may take up to a month after the application close-off date.

Grant funds will be paid on approval. Successful applicants will be required to provide a grant invoice to the Trust to initiate payment of the grant funds.

Monitoring & Reporting

Organisations receiving funding will be asked to report on the outcomes of the project and must account for the expenditure of funds, i.e. provide a summary of how the funding was utilised as per the original application and proof of expenditure by 31 March 2025.

The Trust wants to find out if our funding has made a difference, evidence of beneficiaries and outcomes need to be clearly shown.

Your responsibilities –

  • You must use the grant funds for the purpose that was approved
  • If you wish to use the funds for any other purpose, you must first seek approval from the Trust
  • Any funds found not allocated towards the approved purpose will be required to be reimbursed.
